100% agree, can’t do sci fi unless it’s tied to a specific IP, eg Judge Dredd or Aliens.

For a reason similar to my own, or something else? Do you think that this quality (whatever it is) results in a limitation that you regard as a shortcoming? I feel my habit of thought is a genuine limitation when it comes to sci-fi games in the sense that I'd like to overcome it. This is different from my ambivalence about supers games. My familiarity with comics stretches back to the 'Dark Phoenix' days of the X-men up to the early 1990s Dark Horse indie renaissance, and so I feel like I have something like the cultural background sufficient to the task. I just have no interest in running or playing superhero games.

It’s a similar reason, the general unfamiliarity of a sci fi setting which just gives me a mental block. That’s why I can cope with something like Aliens as it feels familiar. Not a huge sci fi fan, so don’t have even a passing knowledge of many of the long running series or films Leaves me feeling like I don’t have that pool of ideas to pull from.
